Bridget Otoo Slams Bawumia’s Phone Promise, Calls it “Disrespect to Voters”

Accra, Ghana – July 25, 2024 – Media personality Bridget Otoo has strongly criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign promise to make smartphones more accessible to Ghanaians through a credit system.

Speaking in an interview, Otoo described the plan as “disrespectful to voters” and accused the Vice President of underestimating the intelligence of the electorate. She questioned the practicality of the proposal, citing the lengthy repayment period required for a phone costing 4500 cedis, which she estimated would take 37 years to pay off at a rate of one or two cedis per month.

Otoo’s criticism comes on the heels of her previous skepticism towards Bawumia’s promises, including his pledge to abolish the electronic transaction levy (E-Levy) and other taxes.

The Vice President’s promise has sparked a heated debate on social media, with some Ghanaians supporting the initiative and others sharing Otoo’s concerns.
