Heavy Security At Osino Senior High After Students Lynch Community Member In A Violent Attack

A group of students from Osino Presby Senior High School in Fanteakwa South district, Eastern region, reportedly attacked and killed a 27-year-old miner named Ofosu Peter in the boys’ dormitory.

On Monday, February 19th, there was a clash between students from Osino Presby Senior High Technical and Nsutem Senior High Technical School. The incident resulted in a vehicle being set on fire and further heightened tensions between the two schools.

Afterwards, three family members of the student who was assaulted, along with two members of the community, went to the teachers at Osino Presby Senior High School to seek justice. Unfortunately, the students reacted aggressively, causing them to quickly retreat back to the community.

When the students saw them in the company of the victim they thought they were coming for reprisal attack so they mobilized and started hurling stones and other implements and chased them away. A Kia Picanto which they drove to the campus was burnt by the students.

Subsequently, Ofosu Peter, who was simply passing through the boys’ dormitory on his way to Nsuapemso community, became a victim of the students’ aggression and tragically lost his life in a lynching incident.

Martin Addo, the father of the deceased, is demanding justice to be served and expressing his deep sorrow over the senseless violence that took his son’s life.

Isaac Kwadwo Paddy, the spokesperson for the Nsuapemso youth, expressed disappointment about the absence of any arrests. He called on the authorities to act quickly and apprehend those accountable for the violence.

“They lynched him in a mob attack, and we’re seeking justice. We want the police to thoroughly investigate and punish anyone involved in this incident. He’s the main source of income for his large family. He had no connection to what happened recently, so we demand justice from the police. We want to see those responsible for this arrested. It’s unbelievable that no one has been arrested yet, and the students are still celebrating with weapons.” He said.

The deceased person’s body has been taken to the Police Hospital in Accra on Tuesday evening for an autopsy.Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.

The Ghana Education Service and the District Security Council (DISEC) are discussing the possibility of temporarily closing the school to ease the tension and take necessary measures.
