SHS One Academic Calendar -GES

From the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES), it has begun the process of placing students into the various ‘SHS/SHTS/TVET’ ( GES begins BECE School Placement) second cycle schools across the country. This comes following the release of the BECE Results by WAEC.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Eric
Nkansah, the Director-General of the Ghana
Education Service said the December 4, 2023
reporting date for the first-year students is
plausible amid the computer school
placement strategy.

Commenting on the 2023/2024 Senior High
School academic calendar for the BECE
graduates, he said the Director-General of the
Ghana Education Service, Dr Eric Nkansah,
assured that everything would go on
smoothly as scheduled.

Per the transitional calendar for double-track
students, Form One students will be in school from December 4, 2023, to March 5, 2024.

They will, however, return to school on May
13, 2024, until July 9, 2024. They are due to go on break again on July 10, 2024, and reopen on September 3 up to November 15, 2024, when the academic year ends.

On the other hand, single-track students willreport to school from December 4 until March 15, 2024, and go on vacation from
March 16, 2024, to May 2, 2024. The second
semester will begin on May 3, 2024, until
August 28, 2024, when the academic
calendar will end.

A total of 600,71 4 candidates, comprising
300,323 boys and 300,391 girls from 18,993
Junior High Schools participated in the 2023
BECE for School Candidates which began on
Monday, August 7, 2023, to Friday, August 11,
2023. With regard to the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded.

This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.
The 2023 Basic Education Certificate
Examination (BECE) for School Candidates
was held at 2,137 examination centres
across the country, while 15 centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates.

To ensure the smooth and successful
conduct of the 2023 BECE for School and
Private, A total of 2,137 supervisors, 2,000
supervisors and 21,027 invigilators were
tasked to oversee the administration of the national examination.
